WHY

I keep finding little kitten nuggets all over the place. WHYYY?? Why is Petra the most difficult kitten I've ever had? I've NEVER had a kitten have trouble potty training. It's their instinct to use the litter....but I caught her today. She was sleeping and then woke up with a little nugget poking out and went and pooped in the corner on the floor. WTH?!?! Does she have a problem? She didn't have any problems the first week (other than the diarrhea issue) and now she has solid poops but has them all over the place. Ugh. I'm going to put like 5 litter boxes in her room and hope she uses one of them. Bean has been caught using her box so maybe she is just being possessive. Maybe she is just persnickety...either way she makes the whole south side of the house stink like poop and I'm sick of it. Hopefully the basquillion litter boxes solves the problem.

I know, I know, I'm talking about poo...but I had to vent!! Where else could I say it??

In other news we celebrated Cinco de Mayo at our place tonight with some beef fajitas and margaritas. YUM! I think I just wanted an excuse to have a margarita. hehehe The fajitas were so yummy though! I tried to make guac but my avos were too ripe and wouldn't mash. boooo!!

Haven't heard from the dentist yet. Applications close Friday so hopefully I'll get a call after that. Pray it works out!

RE: F21 into Sweatshop Labour?

In response to Ashley's post on Forever21 running sweat shops in LA

I feel pretty conflicted about the whole sweat shop boycott thing. I mean, at least some of those women are admitted illegal immigrants…they’re breaking the law just by being in the country, they aren’t even legally allowed to hold employment in the USA, but they’re complaining about workers rights? It feels more than ironic to me. F21 shouldn’t get away with running a sweat shop period, and definitely not with employing illegal immigrants….but still. Call me ignorant, but it feels an awful lot like when that guy who bought a stolen designer watch from a thief at 40% of its actually value (knowing it was stolen) then tried to sue the thief because he found out it was a fake Rolex. The irony...it's laughable. When you break the law, don't you get what's coming to you? Am I alone in this? I get a little passionate when it comes to immigration for obvious reasons....so maybe I've missed the point.

At the end of the day, I dunno. One of the big problems that blog had with F21 is that they rip-off designer styles. Even though I never really shop at F21, here I am over here loving unique-vintage.com even though I know that a lot of their dresses are blatant rip-offs of more expensive designs. Part of me justifies that since I would NEVER spend $500 on the Jovani gown, buying the $80 knock-off isn’t actually losing them any money and, in turn, I accept that the gown I get will be of poorer quality details and materials. But I also know that if they’re not getting any royalties for the design it’s still wrong either way. I know it’s wrong, so why do I do it? Why do we do that?

Doxylamine Succinate

I love the swift sleep you give me, but hate waking up in the early afternoon with medicine head and the whole day wasted.

Fake Tan

I can't remember if I've given y'all a heads up on this one yet, but last year I discovered the most perfect self-tanner EVER: St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse.

It's never orange and never streaky. Only complaint is that you have to apply it about 3 days in a row before your tan is as dark as it looks with the color-guide on (i.e. the first time you shower it will feel like most of your tan just washed down the drain until you reapply twice.) But, if self-tanning is a part of your day-to-day life I think this one is worth a try!

I started self-tanning when I moved here because the UV is SO HIGH and I'm too paranoid to go out in the sun without a slather of sun-screen. I've seen how wrinkly all my friends are who've been in tanning beds since high school and then how most of the women here who are around my age already have a lot of fine-lines and wrinkles around their eyes and on their foreheads and I can only blame the sun happy lifestyle of Queenslanders... and I just don't think it's worth looking 5 years older just to have a "real" tan. My only time in a tanning bed was 3 months before prom and 3 months before our wedding and I don't think I'll ever do it again. I'm too cancer paranoid! Hopefully the chemicals in my tanner don't end up being carcinogenic....how ironic would that be? LOL

Jobs and stuff!

Hi all!

We had a great long-weekend in Sarina. :) It was our friends Turtle and Ashleigh's birthday party and I got to see a LOT of friends I haven't seen in forever! I loved having a few beers and catching up with all the girls and eating delicious food, it was a really great night.

In other news, we have a new addition to our family.

This is Petra! She is a Princess kitten. :) (Actually she is a tabby/ragdoll mix.) We've been looking for a light colored female Maine-Coon or Ragdoll kitten for a long time, but either the price hasn't been right or they've all been boys or the color was wrong. We saw her at a pet shop in Sarina and took her home straight away! She LOVES cuddles and promises to make an amazing lap-cat which is the perfect balance to Bean who loves to play and won't cuddle very often. Initially, Bean and Petra fought all the time, but after one BIG blow-up, they get along just fine. Petra still likes to attack Bean's tail just for fun and they do run around the house a lot but fights are getting more and more uncommon and, I think once Bean has officially established his dominance, they'll dissipate altogether.

Some of you may remember my most beautiful and amazing shoes I ordered from Torrid a couple weeks ago, but I'll jog your memory just in case:

The jeans turned out really cute btw! Fair warning if you plan on ordering from their site though that the images are slightly more saturated than what the actual product will be. unique-vintage.com is this way too, but I digress. Shoes. I wear a size 12, and these are a 12W. But BOY they most be double wide or something because they felt a full size too big, maybe more! Super disappointing because the shoes themselves are hands down the cutest shoes I've ever owned. Seriously. Ever. So...I went out and bought 2 4-packs of Dr. Scholl's ball-of-foot cushions and 1 pair of heel cushions. There are now 4, count 'em, FOUR silicon cushions in the toe of each shoe and then the heel cushions in the back. When I push forward, HARD, on the cushions as I put my foot in the shoe they fit perfectly! WOO!! I am going to give them a test run tomorrow to see how safe they are to walk in in public. They might need one more toe cushion before they're perfect. I'm DEF ordering an 11 from these guys next time though! Even though these shoes are super duper comfy with all the cushioning now. ;)

I applied for a job at the "dentist surgery" (dunno why they call it a surgery!) as a receptionist. It would only be an average of 3 days a week. I like this because it means they'll be more flexible with days off so if Chris and I need to go away on the weekends we can! The only other listing posted is as a receptionist 4 hrs M-F from 10am-2pm. I really don't like that schedule because it means I'll only ever get 20 hours a week whereas the dentist will give me at least 16 hrs/wk with 24+ on average. I've done the whole 4 hr shift thing and it just feels like a waste of time. That job might be great for someone with kids, but I'm looking for something a bit more. I'd rather have longer shifts with fewer days at work than 4 piddly hrs every single day!

Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?

Mandy Moore because she is my celebrity look-alike and everyone gets to be a more beautiful, thinner, idealized version of themselves in the movie of their life. :)

Ask me anything

I < 3 Frankie

My new Frankie magazine came in the mail today. YAY! This week I've felt 12 years old again in my daily rush to the mailbox, stubbing my toe on a tree root and hopping on one foot to remove whatever small pebble or twig fragment has become imprinted into the sole of the other foot. And then I lift open the mailbox to find.....nothing. Until today when it came! It's here!

http://frankie.com.au/

Okay, I hear you, what is so special about this magazine? Well, it's a work of art. Even the paper it's made out of is obviously twice the quality of your typical tissue-thin glossy fashion mag. These pages are thick, with a newspaper-like texture while still durable. The articles themselves are full of surprises, I feel like everytime I open the magazine I find something else I'd missed the last time through. Even the advertisements are artistic and follow with the same vibe as the articles. It's so well designed. I want to hang up every page until our walls are papered in art and fashion. I love it that much. :) I gushed so much about the first copy I bought that Chris secretly purchased a subscription for me as a gift and now I get to enjoy 6 issues of Frankie a year.

Its tag is "Art-Fashion-Music-Craft-Life" if that tells you anything about the contents. It's so hard to explain, I wish everyone could read it. Its only in its 35 issue which means it probably released its first issue in 2004 and is relatively young as magazines go. I hope they're doing alright financially, I'd hate to see them disappear!

________________

In other news, I've picked up contact again with the Kroussaratsky bros which is so random. I met the twins, Andy and Greg, online on the same website I met Chris back in 2006 when I was trying to make friends in Australia so I could learn about the country and whether I should go to school there. Obviously I only fell in love with Chris, and the Krooza bros and I were just good friends, I even visited them for a week in 2007 when I visited Oz for the first time. However, as time marches on, life gets in the way and we all became quite self-involved and mostly lost contact over the years with the exception of an occasional Facebook message or comment. Out of the blue I started getting phone calls from them again about a month ago and it reminded me why we were all such good friends in the first place. Now that we're all no longer teenagers we might even get along better than we did the first time, who knows? It's great to have them back in my life either way. I really love them from the bottom of my heart, they're so much fun!

That's all!
